A water footprint measures the total volume of freshwater used directly or indirectly to produce goods and services.
As awareness of water scarcity and sustainability grows, Europe is indeed moving toward establishing regulations related to water footprints.
We had a great conversation with Ioana Dobrescu about this topic, allowing us to set at least one foot on the ground to understand the basics, so we can share more detailed aspects in the near future.
The European Union (EU) Green Deal aims to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050 and addresses water management as part of its broader sustainability goals.
While there isn't a specific EU-wide regulation directly mandating water footprint reporting yet, several EU-funded projects are underway to establish guidelines and promote best practices around water footprint assessments. These initiatives could lead to more formalized regulations in the near future.
